What’s your dream job?

My dream job is on the horizon! I want to be able to (at least) take care of my needs by fascilitating outdoor adventures for individuals who may not otherwise get to have opportunities like that.

I have struggled for a long time with this idea because honestly, I would prefer to do this for free. I believe that all people should experience the wilderness and I hate that there is often a financial barrier to that. Sometimes it is the cost of accessing the wilderness because not everyone lives near trailheads, sometimes it is the expense of being away from family responsibilities and work. Sometimes it is the cost of having appropriate clothes and gear. And if I ever woke up under a pile of money, what I would do is cover all those expenses for those who are held back by it.

I have seen people put together their own versions of adventure companies, and they are focused more on providing luxury experiences. That’s great for them and their target market. This last year I broke off a friendship because she decided she also wanted to make money in this market, but all she did was charge A LOT of money to hold an online “class” where all she did was regurgitate information that is available online for free. I was so disappointed in her, but it confirmed the need for me to stand up my own business.

There are a lot of avenues to take in this particular industry. It’s difficult. What I want is to provide a space so individuals can access information to prepare and empower themselves and facilitate unique adventures that encourage these individuals to take their space in the outdoors, try hard things, and learn new ways to experience joy.

I’ve returned to school to earn a business degree and I’m very fortunate that this year I will get to have more time to focus on building this dream! Stay tuned!
