Exploring the American Wilderness and Other Adventures

Creative chaos, new places, wild beauty, and spontaneous adventures

Deep Creek Canyon Loop, Riverside State Park, Nine Mile Falls, Washington

Deep Creek Canyon is so beautiful. You walk through the forest, along a ridge, then through a field, before you cross a beautiful bridge and then walk along the river. I hosted this full moon night hike for my group, Inland Northwest Hikers. I was so lucky to do it with Barbarian Scientist, My Therapist, CG, and a handful of hikers that I did not know before.

Deep Creek Canyon Loop is hike 17 in 100 Hikes in the Inland Northwest: A dramatic range of scenery can be explored in this short hike up a side canyon from the Spokane River in Riverside State Park. Enjoy wildflowers in the various habitats, ranging from the rubble of crumbling basalt near the mouth of Deep Creek to dark mossy forest to open ponderosa pine forest to cliff-edge overlooks of Nine Mile Reservoir on Pine Bluff.

The only thing more beautiful than the trail was My Therapist. Her heart is larger than any other. She and CG have a wild and adorable tiny person growing up on the trails. My Therapist had just returned from her first backpack trip, where she carried the small human, her own gear, and the gear she needed for the small human. TrailKat hosted a weekend trip up to Snow Peak but arrived before My Therapist could, so My Therapist did that climb with the small human alone. She stayed one night to return and hike again, carrying the small human on this trail with me. That woman is unstoppable, and I’m thankful she chooses to use her power for love.
